Baby Ryu was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA TYPE 1). It is a rare and severe genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and wasting.

He may not reach 2 years of age without the treatment because of the progression of his disease. 95% of children with SMA Type 1 die before their 2nd birthday.
