Read moreCrowdfunding can help people to follow their educational goals. This inspiring article takes you through some of our successful education campaigns.
There are so many reasons why people can require assistance in order to get the education they need. In some countries, education is simply not widely available. This can make it challenging for those who want to learn to be able to access educational resources. The costs of higher education even in well-developed countries can be extremely high, often leaving students in thousands of pounds worth of debt in the long term. Many people fall on hard times and education is not a priority. When they start to turn their lives around, it’s often education they need to be able to make a long-term change.
GoGetFunding has been able to help many people from all walks of life to reach their educational goals. This article will share 8 wonderfully successful examples of how crowdfunding has helped people to achieve their dreams and shape their futures.
A group of young people met one another when they attended a course at the United World College of Southern Africa. The course, called Together For Development, teaches young people about the issues which affect them and empowers them to make changes. That’s just what these young people did, and they started with Ernestine.
They banded together to help their friend Ernestine by setting up a crowdfunding campaign after meeting her at the course. They realised that she was struggling to get the funds together to finish her high school diploma after her scholarship was withdrawn.
After Ernestine’s father died due to poor healthcare in their local area, she set a goal firmly in her mind. Ernestine’s dream was to continue her education once she had finished high school, to go on and become a doctor. With the help of her amazing friends she was able to just do just that. Their campaign was successful, raising 100% of their fundraising target!
In Romania, a young person with a compassionate soul saw their grandfather’s village school struggling with resources. Instead of allowing children to have a poor education, they set up a campaign to provide the school library with the books, computers and a printer that they needed.
As well as asking for donations to pay for resources, this innovative person asked donors to contribute any of their old books in order to build up the library’s stock. The campaign was very successful, raising €4,240 and enabling a local community to provide their children with the educational resources they deserve.
After seeing that other women and young girls in her community in Singapore didn’t have the access to education and wellbeing that she did, Suhaani decided to take action. She set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to sponsor two girls through a charity called World Vision.
World Vision is an organization based in Singapore who are “dedicated to working with children, families and communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.” They help to provide those in poverty with the resources they need to thrive and break free of the poverty cycle. One of the ways they do this is by asking people to sponsor a child. People pay a set amount each month to fund their chosen child’s education, health and other basic needs. Suhaani was able to meet her fundraising goal at 100%, enabling her to sponsor two young girls and change their lives for the better!
A young woman spent 10 years studying to complete her medical degree. She was in her last year of education, but was in debt and didn’t have the funds to pay off her arrears. Without these funds, she would not have been able to complete her degree and get her certificate, rendering her years of study in vain.
Thankfully, she was able to turn to GoGetFunding and set up a campaign, which enabled her to raise 100% of the money she needed to graduate and follow her dreams!
ICEF is an organization which promotes international education. They connect educational institutions and educators across the world to offer students unique, life changing experiences. Two of the people who contribute to the work of ICEF decided to set up a campaign to fund a scholarship for one young person.
Their aim was to have donors nominate young people for the scholarship, as well as make vital donations. They needed to raise $2,500 to pay for flights and accommodation for a student to travel to Australia. They wanted to provide an amazing opportunity for a young person to see the world, have new experiences, and learn the English language.
Their campaign was hugely successful with them surpassing their goal, raising $3,250. GoGetFunding was able to be part of funding a young person’s international education! The people who ran the campaign donated the extra funds to a school in need of help, spreading the kindness even further.
Haruni Nursery is a preschool in Tanzania, in a poverty-stricken area where many children are orphaned. The majority of the children there don’t have water or food, never mind an education. This amazing nursery was founded in 2012, starting in an empty classroom with no equipment and a class of just 4 orphans.
Over the coming years, news of the opportunity for an education spread. Now 80 children are taught there, ranging from ages 2 to 8 years old. Unfortunately, lack of financial resources meant that the nursery was really struggling, unable to provide basic requirements like water for their students. The classrooms didn’t have blackboards, tables or other educational tools, and the classrooms themselves were in a dangerous state of disrepair. This is where crowdfunding was able to really make a difference.
A woman called Sinead set up a campaign to improve things within the nursery. She wanted to raise €3,000 to repair the classrooms and make the infrastructure safe for the children and teachers. The classrooms needed chairs, tables, blackboards and stationary so the children could have successful lessons. Last but certainly not least, they wanted to create an outdoor kitchen, so they could cook for the children and provide them with the vital nutrition they were lacking.
They managed to raise all of the funds that they needed! The nursery now has a stable, safe structure for the children to learn in, as well as the necessary classroom furniture. They are in the process of building their outdoor kitchen, and have even been able to buy the food supplies needed to feed the children for the foreseeable future!
MercyHome Freetown is a school in Austria which helps young people complete their education. They not only provide children with the education they need, but also access to housing, healthcare and food. This enables the young people to focus on their education, with the hope they can then go on and become self-sufficient.
MercyHome Freetown’s higher education programme helps young adults who may have lost their way to get back to education. Through this programme they are able to complete their school leaving certificate and go on to higher education. A wonderful man named James wanted to help three of the oldest students with their university fees after they had finished the higher education programme. He set up a crowdfunding campaign and subsequently ran the Wachau Marathon to raise the funds needed. His campaign was highly successful, beating his fundraising goal at 181% and raising an impressive €1,420!
Sistema Cyprus is a local project in Cyprus, helping to teach music to the children of the community. They focus on vulnerable communities and bring children together to give them purpose and motivation. Through music they teach them life skills, build a sense of community and support, and provide them with a creative outlet.
Over the recent festive period, a member of the organization started a campaign so they could raise funds to include 30 more children in the project. Their goal was successful, beating their target and raising €1,220. GoGetFunding was able to help give the gift of music to 30 children for Christmas! You can check out one of their heartwarming performances here.
