Help the growing passion for rockets in Costa Rica

The team

We are a group of students currently undergoing our studies in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the University of Costa Rica. We have been involved with Aerospace activities as active members of the Aerospace Engineering Group (GIA) for about 2 years, where we have had the joy of participating in different projects in the area of telemetry, fuselages and propulsion. Obtaining the Tripoli Certification represents an incredible experience both personal and professional, for all of us; nevertheless, since we have to travel to the United States from Costa Rica, financial resources make it a hard way to consummate our goal. Sadly we are short on time and some of our members need a last push to go, our university, Universidad de Costa RIca (UCR), gave us some funds to assist, and the support from our families is what got us this far, but two weeks before ARLISS one of our members still needs to buy her ticket, plus expenses like lodging and transport have not been fully addresed yet, this is why we kindly ask for your support, please help us get certified in High Power Rocketry.

Tripoli Certification

The Tripoli Certification allows people to legally fly high power rockets in the United States. We, as a group of students from a developing country, are looking forward to obtain the certification because that means that it will be possible to establish basic guidelines for safety rocketry in our country. This represents an enormous opportunity for us to develop further in this area. This will definitely increase scientific research at the University of Costa Rica and especially in our country.

About ARLISS

The ARLISS (A Rocket Launch for International Student Satellites) was created as an initiative for students and universities to develop a space where students from all around the world can test their abilities to create, launch and test prototypes of satellites.

Students who accept the challenge can improve their knowledge about aerospace technology. It is also an opportunity to obtain experience in aerospace fields in a relatively small amount of time. Each team travels to Black Rock Desert to preparate, launch, telemetry download and safe recovery of their experiments and data.

ARLISS also serves as an opportunity for us to get certified by TRIPOLI Rocketry Association. We use this opportunity to improve our capability as a university and as a country to improve our developments in aerospace technology. We do this by sending a small team with the only objective of getting certified, by doing this they will apply all of the concepts that they learn here in Costa Rica by being part of the Aerospace Engineering Group at Universidad de Costa Rica. In the United States they will meet the AEROPAC members (a prefecture of TRIPOLI) that are managing ARLISS, with their help they will assemble and launch their certification rockets in order to pass the required tests of being certified.

These funds will pay

We wiil use these funds as follows:

The first $400 will pay the last plane ticket that our team needs, making sure that all of our members will go. When we get to $1000 our lodging will be covered, making sure that we have some place to sleep at night. When we get to $1500 we will have everything that we need to assist to ARLISS including plane tickets for one of our members, lodging, transport and food. If we get to $2000 we won't have to use to much money from our parents and guardians, so our family economy won't suffer an impact as heavy. Everything we get above $2000 will go to the Aerospace Engineering Group funds in order to finance equipment and current and future projects.
