This is Joymee Teodoro-Mago.

Ate Joy Photo

She is a loving daughter, a very charismatic granddaughter and a protective oldest sister. She is happily married to her childhood sweetheart Michael for 12 years, and they were blessed with a daughter Kheyla in 2005. She is a doting mother and a faithful wife and most of all, a very active member of the church. She is a ray of happiness to all those who know her...her name can not be more fitting of her personality.

Friends call her Joy, Joyms, sometimes “Mother Joy” but I was lucky enough to call her my “Ate” or “Big Sister” – because that was how she was, a mother figure, caring and thoughtful. Joy is the first born child, she was the first grandchild from both sides of the parents so her arrival in the family came with a lot of anticipation and excitement.

Last 20th of July 2016, she was rushed over to Rashid Hospital in Dubai, UAE via Emergency Ambulance. At the time, Emergency Responders declared that she had suffered a mild stroke. What started as severe migraine on that very hot summer day, turned out to be the beginning of a heartbreaking journey.

As a result of her multiple brain aneurysm surgeries, she suffered severe diffuse vasopasm that led to the gradual deterioration of her brain's health. According to the neurosurgeon, her brain had swollen so much that the skull could not contain it. This prevented blood and oxygen to flow in and out of the brain chambers - the brainstem connecting and communicating with her entire biological systems, just ultimately failed.

She was declared brain dead, Thursday – August 4, 2016. No chance of survival. She was 37 years old. She has to remain in ICU on artificial life support, until her heart gives up. This is per the hospital and national regulations on patients who are fully reliant on life support.

(A portion relating to her medical expenses, has been omitted pending discussion with insurance company)

Joy was not employed at the time of her illness, she did not have health and life insurance. However, Michael has on-going discussions with his company's insurance to try and get assistance from them as well. We remain positive that this will push through.

This fund raising campaign was initiated upon receiving offers from colleagues, friends and families near and far who want to provide financial help. Any funds we raise in this campaign will be used for her repatriation and memorial services in Cavite, Philippines. Our parents’ wishes were for her to finally rest peacefully back home, where we spent most of our childhood. Any other financial assistance will be allotted for Kheyla’s college fund.

We are hoping that you can help us make this happen.

Our family asks for prayers in these very trying times. Please pray for us to have the patience and courage to accept the things only God intended to be.

We will continue to update this page as we get more information on her repatriation and memorial services.
