Actualización de Aurelio 3: 12 de Septiembre de 2021.

Aurelio ha pasado por muchas cosas desde el 27 de agosto. Después de la última actualización, Aurelio se volvió anémico nuevamente y necesitó otra transfusión y siguió necesitando ayuda para respirar debido a la mucosidad en sus pulmones infectados. El 1 de septiembre "se encontraba estable.

El 2 de septiembre" a las 12 pm nos notificaron que una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales del Hospital Civil de Tepic, Nayarit tenía una cama abierta y fue trasladado ese día a las 3 pm. Mientras estaba en el transporte, nació otro bebé que necesitaba cuidados intensivos. Así que cuando llegamos no había cama para Aurelio en sus cuidados intensivos. A las pocas horas Aurelio fue trasladado a otro hospital de seguros sociales.

Era una unidad prenatal pero no una unidad prenatal intensiva, por lo que no era lo que esperábamos para Aurelio. Nos prometieron que lo vería un especialista neonatólogo un par de veces al día y que el equipo de prenatal era competente. Pensamos en transportar a Aurelio de regreso a Bucerías, pero eso sería más potencial para un trauma que mantenerlo en ese hospital. Sentimos que no teníamos más remedio que ponerlo en ese hospital

A la mañana siguiente, el director de la unidad de atención prenatal del hospital de seguros sociales nos dijo que Aurelio no podía quedarse. Que la unidad no estaba preparada para atender las necesidades de Aurelio. Luego hablamos por separado con otro Doctor y nos explicó que esto se dijo porque las enfermeras se quejaron de que Aurelio no tenía seguro y no debería haber sido admitido. Luego nos prometió que no tenía que irse y que el equipo médico, con su ayuda, lo cuidaría bien.

Al día siguiente, descubrimos que una enfermera le había quitado el catéter a Aurelio sin ninguna razón aparente. Aurelio necesitaba el catéter cardíaco para recibir medicamentos y nutrientes. Nadie en la unidad, incluido el médico supervisor, sabía por qué faltaba el catéter. Nos comunicamos nuevamente con el Doctor que nos apoyó, regresó a revisar y se enteró que las enfermeras no estaban autorizadas a quitar el catéter y se lo quitaron diciendo que algo andaba mal. Rosa y yo supimos entonces que Aurelio estaba en un ambiente hostil y que no podíamos confiar en que el personal de ese hospital de seguros sociales mantendría a Aurelio a salvo. El Doctos nos prometió quedarse con Aurelio hasta que se abriera otro espacio.

Rosa, yo y la tía Clari de Rosa buscamos por todo Tepic para encontrar un catéter neonatal sin éxito. Durante ese tiempo llamé a CMQ y le pregunté si lo llevarían de regreso porque Aurelio no estaba en un ambiente seguro. El director de CMQ negó esa solicitud, pero se ofreció a darnos un catéter. Pedro, un familiar, condujo hasta Tepic para dárnoslo.

Más tarde esa noche, el Doctor compartió con tristeza que un niño había fallecido debido a una malformación del corazón y la digestión y que, por lo tanto, ahora hay disponible una cama en la unidad prenatal intensiva del hospital público. Rosa y yo nos sentimos aliviados y tristes por esta noticia. Después de 2 días muy intensos, Aurelio fue ingresado el 4 de septiembre a las 23:00 horas en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Prenatales del Hospital Civil.

Ahora se encuentra en una instalación que está siendo atendido continuamente por la clínica. El hospital es gratuito excepto por exámenes de especialistas, medicina y suministros que no tienen en stock. Los costos hasta este momento han sido mínimos.

¡Aurelio avanza rápido en su nuevo entorno! Ahora está respirando solo, su digestión está funcionando bien, sus pulmones están limpios y todos sus órganos, incluido el cerebro, ¡funcionan bien! Y hace dos días lo han trasladado de la unidad de cuidados intensivos a la unidad de cuidados intermedios. ¡Realmente una gran noticia! Significa que Rosa tiene más tiempo con él. Debido a Covid, no permiten que los padres las visiten. Todos continuamos orando y haciendo todo lo posible para mantenerlo a salvo y en un ambiente saludable.

Tenemos la suerte de que nuestro amigo Fer, que vive a solo dos cuadras del Hospital Civil, nos permita quedarnos en su casa. La tía de Rosa, Clari, también viajó a Tepic después de enterarse del transporte de Aurelio y ha sido un gran apoyo para ayudarnos en esta transición la semana pasada. Nos sentimos bendecidos y la intensidad definitivamente ha disminuido considerablemente.

Ahora pesa 1,42 kilos y dicen que una vez que alcance los 1,8 kilos podrá volver a casa. ¡Ellos anticipan que ganará 40 g por día, lo que significa que puede irse en 10 días!

Aurelio's Update 3: September 12, 2021.

Aurelio has gone through much since August 27. After the last update Aurelio became anemic again and needed another transfusion and continued to need to be assisted with breathing due to mucous in his infected lungs. On September 1" he was stable.

On September 2" at 12pm we were notified that a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the Civil Hospital in Tepic, Nayarit had an open bed and he was transported that day at 3pm. While in transport another baby was born that needed intensive care. So when we arrived there was no bed for Aurelio in their intensive care. After a few hours Aurelio was transferred to an insurance hospital.

It was a prenatal unit but not an intensive prenatal unit, so it was not what we had hoped for Aurelio. We were promised that a prenatal specialist doctor would see him a couple of times a day and that that the prenatal team were competent. We thought about transporting Aurelio back to Bucerias but that would be more potential for trauma than keeping him in the insurance hospital. We felt we had no choice but to put him with the insurance hispital.

The next morning we were told that Aurelio could not stay. That the unit was not prepared to take care of Aurelio's needs. We then spoke separately with another doctor and she explained that this was said because the nurses complained that Aurelio did not have insurance and should not have been admitted. She then promised us that he did not have to leave and the medical team, would take good care of him.

The next day, we found Aurelio's catheter had been removed by a nurse for no apparent resaon! Aurelio needed the heart catheter to receive medicine and nutrients. No one in the unit including the supervising doctor knew why the catheter was missing. We found out that the nurses were not authorized to take off the catheter and they took it off saying that something was wrong with it. Rosa and I then knew that Aurelio was in a hostile environment and that we could not trust the insurance hospital staff with keeping Aurelio safe. One of the doctors pro.used to stay with Aurelio until another space opened.

Rosa, I and Rosa's Aunt Clari searched all over Tepic to find a neonatal catheter with no success, During that time I called up CMQ and asked if they would take him back because Aurelio was not in a safe environment. The CMQ director denied that request but did offer to give us a catheter. Pedro, family member, drove to Tepic to give it to us.

Later that evening, a doctor from the Civil Hospital sadly shared that a child had passed due to a malformed heart and digestion and that therefore a bed in the intensive prenatal unit is now available. Rosa and I were relieved and sad from this news. After 2 very intense days Aurelio was actually admitted on September 4" at 11pm to the Civil Hospital Prenatal Intensive Care Unit.

He is now in a facility being cared for continuously by the clinic. The hospital is free except for exams from specialists, medicine and supplies that they do not have in stock. The costs up to this time has been minimal.

Aurelio is progressing fast in his new surroundings! He is now breathing on his own, his digestion is working well, his lungs are clear, and all his organs including brain are all functioning well! And two days ago he has been moved from the intensive care unit to the intermediate care unit. Realiy great news! It means Rosa gets to have more time with him. Because of Covid they are not allowing fathers to visit. We are all continuing to pray and do all we can to keep him safe and in a healthy environment.

We are fortunate to have our friend Fer, who lives just two blocks from the Civil Hospital, allow us to stay in his home. Rosa's aunt Clari also travelled to Tepic after-finding out Aurelio's transport and has been very supportive with helping us through this transition this last week. We feel blessed and the intensity has definitely lessened considerably.

He now weighs 1.42 kilos and they say once he reaches 1.8 kilos he will be able to go home! They anticipate that he will gain 40g per day so that means he may leave in 10 days!
