The first artisan family recieved 300$

Update posted by Katrin Schrimpf

Thank you so much guys for all the donations we've already received in just a few days! Thanks to you, we were able to hand out the first 300 Dollars to our friends in Arrazola. Armando, Antonia and their son Alejandro are making Alebrijes. Alebrijes are fantasy animals carved out of copal wood by Armando and painted with acrylic paints by Antonia and Alejandro. If you want to see some of their incredible pieces of art check out our online store!

We used to organize a very popular tour through Airbnb experiences and TripAdvisor called "Paint your Alebrije" to take people from all over the world to the house of Armando and his family in the small Alebrije village Arrazola, which is about 30 min away from Oaxaca City.

There, our guests learned directly from the artisan family how to paint their own Alebrije and were shown and explained the entire process behind this stunning folk art from Oaxaca.

But as you know, since the end of March, we're not able to offer this tour anymore. In general, no tourist has been to the small Alebrije village since then. Which means, Armando and his family were not able to sell anything as their small gallery belongs to their house in Arrazola.

Gracias from our Alebrije family Antonia, Armando and their son Alejandro from Arrazola, Oaxaca

With the support of your 300$ they can survive at least another month without tourism. Thank you!

Un abrazo desde Oaxaca,
Antonia, Alejandro and Armando <3
