After escaping Isis on November 25th, 2017 one womans story and that of her 10 year year old son who escaped 7 months ago

Update posted by Monica McWhirter

On August 3rd, 2014 there were 6 member of her family, her husband was a teacher. Everything changed on that day and they were all taken into captivity.

After living in Isil captivity for 3 years, she escaped. She came to one of Dohuks 17 IDP camps, alone and without any support except for 1 male cousin. One of her children, her 10 year old son joined her after escaping 7 months ago, the rest are presumed dead.

Her son, who no longer speaks the language of his district, is unable to go to school. Due to not speaking his native language he is unable to attend the school at the camp. He was not accepted into Arabic school because he was absent from the school system for 4 years. He would really like to be able to attend.

The woman, is not able to work. It is important to recognize that many people, especially woman coming from this generation were not able to attend school to have a stepping stone into a job or career. Finances are tight and they are without Kerosene, family members to support them and their day to day life is a struggle. When asked what they wanted for their future, they said that it was impossible to even think of that. Everyday they live through what has happened and as a woman she has limited ability to support herself (men will arrange for many things here and are also the ones who can).

Due to their history with trauma and concern of the repercussions of having their names and images posted, it was agreed that no images would be included.

Yet they are still in desperate need of support.

Some of the portions of the money raised will be going directly to this family, to help them reintergrate back into their community and others like them.
