Update posted by Gene Kelly Blaquera

It has been a while since we last updated everyone with how my mom has been doing now. After mama has been out of the hospital she was actually doing fine, pain management is working, her jaundice had been decreasing and she has been trying very hard to walk around to regain strength in preparation for her chemo. Even with all of the obstacles that she'd been thru she tries to put on a smile and face all those challenges head on.

Sadly that burst of strength was short lived. Starting last Christmas mama's wellbeing started to decline. She started to feel weaker she could barely move around and she would just stay in her room. Little by little pain medications, massage and relaxation techniques weren't working and the pain had become unbearable.

So in the morning of January 4, 2020 we rushed mama to USTH. On that morning, she was really in hell lot of pain, screaming and tosisng and turning, all over her back, chest and abdomen. We also noticed on our way to the hospital that her skin and eyes had been turning jaundiced to a heavy yellow shade.

She's now in USTH. For her pains: She's now given pain management using a Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) loaded with Fentanyl (a strong opioid analgesic). For her Jaundice - she's completing antibiotic treatment Piperacillin Tazobactam and they are planning to have Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage (PTBD) (A minimally invasive procedure guided by imaging to help remove the bile that is obstructed out to drain outside of her body) - however, the plan is not yet final and she is under observation and study if we could still do the procedure and if the benefits outweighs the risks involved.

Mama is comfortable and the pain isn't bothering her so much as before and became more tolerable. However she's been lagging and sometimes confused that might be the side effect of the drug. But when mama became fully awake and aware, we took time to talk last night and we have come to consensus that we have accepted things we could not change anymore, we told each other how we love each other so much and how fortunate and blessed we are with a small & simple but happy family, loving friends and people who have a special place in our hearts. I also admitted to my mom that the sadness will be there but I reassured her that everything will be okay to prepare ourselves with the inevitable.

Our family is very thankful for all the love that we had been getting. Please continue your unending support and prayers. We are very happy to know that we are not alone in this journey. #MEVPBrave

PS: If you'd like to pay a visit Mama is admitted at USTH room 3014. Thank you so much.
