We finally were able to bring SUMO to the vet yesterday and we are heartbroken. He is not in the best of health.

-He is FIV positive, which makes it difficult for him to fight infections

-His platelets and red blood cells count is very low

-His potassium level is low as well

-One of his nails has fallen off, not very serious but there’s a bit of an infection on his left paw

-Teeth are bad, and he’s lost many and his gums are swollen and pale

-Might need to pull out some teeth later but the main goal right now is to increase his red blood cells, platelets and potassium levels

Today, we got an update from Dr. Nair and she said Sumo is not responding to treatment. His platelets / red blood cells count continues to drop and the doctor suspects that the FIV has started attacking his bone marrow hence he is not able to produce red blood cells. Our last chance is to give him a shot that could probably help increase his red blood cells. This will be administered tomorrow.
