BIEN Congress was a success!

Update posted by Antonios Triantafyllakis

The BIEN Congress in Hyderabad was a success! All the good people of UBI were there, the discussions were very fruitful and the inspiration immense!

During the Congress I also took some interviews for the International Basic Income Week, which you'll soon be able to see!

Dr Sarath Davala offered us a tour in Madya Pradesh right after the Congress, where we visited a tribal village which was among the poorest to receive the direct cash transfers of the Basic Income Pilot that took place in India almost a decade ago. The villagers were happy to share their stories of how those seemingly small cash transfers changed their lives, enabling them to start new local businesses, avoid jobs that would have them stay away from their families for a year, send their kids to school and eat healthier food. It's touching to see how Basic Income can really change lives so profoundly!

Following that, a group of BIEN/UBIE people decided to visit Auroville, a very progressive township in India, to see how Basic Income could potentially make this 50-year old experiment even more successful. I was among the people that gave a talk on UBI here!

However, as you can see, the fundraiser is yet to gather any support, which puts me into a difficult situation, as I can still not afford my tickets back to Europe and my personal funds are almost over... I would therefore welcome any contribution that you could make, however small, as it will help me continue my efforts!
