Update posted by Maria Therese Andrada

I headed to the Philhealth office first before heading to the Cancer facility. I was calm and relaxed not thinking anything will go wrong with my treatment for today. Hence, even the injection of the needle went smoothly this time.

We start with a dehydration Iv line then meds are inserted inbetween such as anti allergy meds before the actual chemo meds. Mind you, going to the toilet every 30 minutes while dragging the whole Iv contraption is no fun at all by yourself. The meds start to make me groggy and sleepy, so I try to sleep. 10 minutes later after the chemo was inserted as I was trying to sleep again, it hit me instantly pain all over, back, tummy and lastly I couldn't breathe. I was under an anaphylactic shock. In short, a bad allergic reaction to the chemo meds. I had to shout "Mariel" several times (the nurses name). She was the same nurse who assisted me 2 years ago. Who still very much remembers me and saddened that I was back there. My doctor came in minutes after she was informed by my nurse Anjo who was assigned for me that day. Moments later my aunt came in and I explained to her what had happened. My doctor to do 1) a purified version of what I just had with an Allergist around to assist or (which will cost $200 more) or 2) change complete meds. Of course I'd like to opt for the first one because that is the second line of meds used for cancer re-occurence. In two weeks I will have my next lab tests and by Feb 6 my next session. Hopefully it is successful this time. Let's all hope and pray the best for the next one.
