Update after 6 weeks

Update posted by Neil Stevenson

My last 6 weeks have followed an unerringly identical routine. This has been largely constrained by a combination of factors, not least internet access which has been my traditional source of revenue as a freelance translator, but also mobility in winter weather (I ride a m/bike) and being as productive & unobtrusive as possible (I live in a small community). Since I have had no previous such experience, thankfully, I had no idea what would be possible.

After panning through the 'debris' of the last few weeks, certain nuggets have stubbornly remained in the pan. The loss of my mobile through the inadvertent 'bricking' of it has taken on a far larger significance than I had previously given that device. Many may find this odd, but I had a largely indifferent relationship with it & used it sparingly. Now in the absence of a reliable fixed line (I previously had 40Mbps via fibre) my independent revenue earning stream is severely curtailed as I usually need to work through the night for jobs with tight deadlines.

Had I not had annoying imperatives like feeding myself & putting petrol in the bike, I could just about afford a good one now; but it appears that I picked a poor time to become homeless against the backdrop of Brexit, with its hapless cast of characters & Christmas.
