One in a Million

Update posted by Lorenz Moralina

August 25 – Stacy had her first consultation with her pediatric neurologist. The pedia neuro explained how Stacy is failing to thrive or not gaining her expected weight due to her mental issues; in which, she is considering moebius syndrome. As defined by the Nutritional Organization for Rare Disorders, moebius syndrome is a rare neurological disorder, affecting 1 out of 1 million individuals, characterized by weakness or paralysis of multiple cranial nerves. In Stacy’s case, it is the 7th (facial) nerves. With this, Stacy will be unable to smile, frown, pucker her lips, raise her eyebrows or even close her eyelids. This is also the very reason why Stacy has not yet developed her sucking reflex. The doctor also explained how Stacy will exhibit delay in attaining certain milestones such as crawling or walking and how she has a high risk for having epilepsy in the future.

Aside from your continuous prayer, proper treatment and support system is what Stacy needs right now.
