Fundraising Goal...ticked!!

Update posted by Warwick Fenner

Because you help donate money towards my aligned charity Save the Children for the Berlin Marathon, I thought I give a bit back and share a little of my story.

Firstly, a big thank you for helping me raise over $1600 that will help Save the Children do a great job in helping those in much a much more vulnerable position.

40,000 runners fronted the start line and this included a good Fenner family contingent – Damon, Sian and sister-in-law Petra. In addition, there was the winner of the race in 2hrs 01minutes Eluide Kipchoge who broke the word record….so quick!

The day was humid, but the Berliners support along the track was amazing, with someone cheering you on every km of the track.

After a gruelling 3hr 15min, Damon was casually waiting at the finish line after flying home in 2hrs 54min but he was a good ear to bounce off after I experience the infamous “hitting the wall” moment 26km into the race. Despite this I was able to still take in all the marathon and sights and smells and noise Berlin presented to me

Soon after I joined my family: Beth, Adele, my Mum celebrating her 70th birthday and my Dad who inspired us all to run and who is still the quickest! A little Sian and Petra rocked up and we all absorbed what we collectively had done and share it with those closest!

Great experience and a great event that has motivated me for perhaps more silly distance running events!
