A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDER OF ETHLYN’S HOPE, INC.

My name is Ethlyn Cowan. I am the president for Ethlyn’s Hope Inc which is a 501(C) tax exempt non-profit organization. I am also the principal organizer for Ethlyn’s Hope Medical Mission which was launched in 2014. Since 2011 I have been involved in medical mission projects that provide medical care to the people of Kenya. In 2014 I launched my own mission project that meets the needs of community around Lela, Maseno-Kenya. During our mission in April 2014 we provided medical care to over 600 residents of the community during a four-day period. The services provided were medical and dental. Our team consisted of 14 medical and non-medical personnel.

We journeyed again to Kenya from September 21st to October 1st ,2016. While there, we provided the same level of service to the people of the community. We worked from September 26th to the 30th. We added another service in the area of eye surgery. Our US team comprised of 15 medical personnel. We were joined by three local medical personnel from Kenya, who also worked with us in 2014. We worked from three separate sites, the public hospital and the community center for the first four days. On the fifth day we moved the clinic to one of the largest slums in Kisumu. On that day we provided care to 285 patients. We provided care to 800 patients during the mission.

In addition to bringing the medical team to the area, Ethlyn’s Hope is also partnering with the women of the village to build an orphanage. The building has been in construction since 2010. Funding for the construction is done through fund raising and donations. The completion of the building and furnishings requires an estimated $20,000 US. It is my hope to be able to complete the building and have it dedicated on September 15th ,2018.

This year’s mission team will comprise of 30 medical and non-medical personnel who will travel to Kenya from September 11th to 23rd to provide medical, dental, cosmetology and chiropractic services to the people of Lela and the surrounding villages.
