Six month update

6 MONTH UPDATE!

Wow, Its hard to believe we've been actively building our Houseboat for 6 months now! Thank you all for taking a supportive role in this process and for being there for us! We are so excited to enter the final phase of construction and expect everything to be wrapped up enough for my mom to move in by the end of September.

Here's some Highlights from the past couple of months:

May: As the siding on 3 sides was finished, we needed to spin the houseboat around 180 degrees to have better access to the 4th side. The first attempt failed at a 4.8' high tide, so we had to wait until the middle of the night for a 6.0' tide to do the deed. Fortunately, the rotation was successful and then the last side's exterior could be completed.

June: As the exterior siding finished up, our building team moved on to the task of internal guts- plumbing, electrical and gas. We had a special helper who came out for some volunteer work days - Kyyio's dad, Cary! He spent three days drilling holes in the studs for the electrical wires through. Thanks Cary! We also got the roof roofed and the deck decked!

July: A monumental move was executed late one windy evening at the beginning of the month - we towed the houseboat around the harbor and into a very narrow entry into its permanent birth! It had to be done at the highest spring tides of 6.8' because we are docked close to the shore. It all worked amazingly well with the help of a crew of 12 guys and 3 boats (plus most of the harbor folks were out watching, helping, yelling, and witnessing the move! The rest of the month was spent finishing the internals and building a landing pad on the top of the dock which will lead to a ramp to the boat.

August: This month we will be getting a much anticipated inspection before we close in with sheetrock. But before that, the fire sprinkler system needs to get installed (next week) plus a separate inspection from the fire chief, then the insulation installation comes with its own special Green Building Code inspections. We have been getting a little stressed figuring out how we are going to pay for the last push of all the finishing pieces (floors, cabinets, bathroom, appliances). We are trusting in the universe, our hard work and resourcefulness, and community to get us through- so my mom can move in as soon as possible. Luckily, we just scored a free kitchen appliance set from a condo in SF that was getting renovated, so that's Awesome!
