Teller's Neck has been drained procedure 1.

Update posted by Rugaz Rescue Inc

Teller's neck wounds have been cleaned and opened to drain. A drain placed in, and sadly we've already found that some of the skin is already necrotic and dying. So after a few days of treatment and stabilizing care, another surgery will need to be performed to remove all the dead tissue.

Most of the pressure has been relieved and he is having a much easier time breathing. There is still some swelling and draining happening which is to be expected with how severe the abscesses were. All of this was sadly caused simply by neglect. If Teller had seen a Veterinarian immediately after whatever bit him happened, all of this would have been completely avoided with simple antibiotics and after treatment care. Now unfortunately it has become life threatening, and very painful to treat and save Tellers life.

While sedated we also took X-Rays of his neck and upper body to make sure there were no foreign bodies and/or internal damage done we could not see. Attached below is the second estimate for days 2 and on. His first day yesterday was a total of $337 and the weekend is $761. The total for his wound care is approx $1200, and this is not including re-checks or continued care up to or past Heartworm Treatment.

He is now on a strong set of antibiotics and being hospitalized for round the clock care, but should be able to go into medical foster as soon as Monday depending on second surgery progress with paws crossed!

Mr Teller didn't have much time left before the abscesses turned into something much worse, and he couldn't be turned around so with this support team he was saved just in time.

It's going to be a long recovery, and may need to have several draining done, but he will beat this and become a happy healthy boy shortly, with everyone's help!

As soon as we have beat this severe infection and draining, he will start Heartworm treatment once he's been medically cleared.
