Frosting on the Mirrors

Update posted by Greg Smith

One of the things we had to do towards the end of my Dad's life was to put frosting sheets to cover all the mirrors in their apartment including the floor-to-ceiling mirrors on the sliding closet doors.

Why did we have to do this?

Whereas with normal dementia the sufferer has loss of memory and forgetfulness. Lewy-Body Dementia (LBD) adds the horror of terrifying hallucinations. Suddenly seeing strange people appearing sitting in the living room chairs or standing over their bed looking down. Catching their own face or a reflection of their movement in a window or mirror becomes a debilitating nightmare.

My mother was constantly being woken up by the Dad's screams and moans of terror and taking hours to get him calmed down. This is the reality of LBD.
