MAYONG UPDATES

Update posted by Vanela Grace Torres

apologize for not updating lately with my activities. As expected from my previous updates, I'd be taking my Instructor Development Course on May, but unfortunately, it went south as I was sent to a special mission in Cabilao, Bohol. I was requested by the head office assist to guide and help out the shop. Little upset in the beginning but the company's task is a priority.

But I HAVE GREAT news for you!

FIRST: THE EVENT

Objecitf Atlantide together with Department of Tourism organized an underwater investigation competition were they selected random divers from France to go here in Philippines and look for certain marine species and solve a particular case. Role played with a Policeman, Marine Biologist, Narrator and 20 volunteers to search for clues. The team who had the most species identified and find most clues wins. It was one of a kind experience. Different from the usual dive guiding that we do. Broaden my knowledge on marine species and its activities and of course, it was hella fun hanging out with French People! I appreciate our team for doing an excellent job. Waking up early in the morning and carrying tanks and making sure everyone is safe while having fun. What's the word? TEAMWORK! I learned a lot from the event and I hoped to organize our own underwater investigation with Sea Explorers. P.S. It was the first underwater investigation event in the Philippines! Thank you for choosing Sea Explorers! Cabilao is indeed a paradise.

SECOND: WAR ON WASTE NEGROS ORIENTAL PETITION WAS SUCCESS!

Yes, the Municipality of Dumaguete heard us and they will implement of banning of plastics in the Public Market of Dumaguete to sellers and consumers starting on the first of June. I look forward to reach out other municipalities especially DAUIN! :D I hope for the cooperation of the community. Yey! It’s a milestone! Thank you signing the petition! We did it!

THIRD: Department of Environment and Natural Resources will organize ECOTOURISM ACTIVITIES in Apo Island

Apo Island is one of the must-visit tourist spot in the Province of Negros Oriental. Well known for Sea Turtles, group of Jacks, Sea Snake and beautiful coral landscape.

Recently, the DENR called the attention of stakeholders of Apo Island that includes the existing People’s Organization, Local Government Unit, Provincial Tourism Office, Dive Shop operators and other members of the community for a Focal Group Discussion on Natural Resources and Social Demographic Surveys and ended with a fruitful and diverse discussion of challenges and possible solutions. I am happy that the DENR Regional Office will take part on community based projects for the betterment of the island and its people. Dive shops emphasized promoting the island on its Protection not Mass Tourism Promotion. Oh yeah! I will keep you posted on this one. ;)

A lot of things happened, even if I was not able take the IDC this month, I still look forward to do it before 2018 ends. The universe is up to something and I know that if it’s the time of my IDC, I will be armored and ready. Yes, my Paypal is still open for donations! ;D
