Introducing... William

...and Sophia!

I'm sure you'll agree that these two are just adorable!

They were born on Friday 23rd June each weighing 2.5kg/ 5.5 pounds. William was born at 7:10pm Indian time and Sophia arrived 20 mins later at 7:30pm. They are both PERFECTLY healthy. Mamta was admitted to Jain hospital within half an hour of her water breaking and the twins were delivered there safely within three hours. Both twins were able to be delivered without a cesarean section, even though Sophia was still in breech position just before her birth.

Below is a photo of the twins at the hospital just after they were born. Sophia is on the left and William is on the right.

Mamta received several stitches after the delivery and was very weak immediately following the birth. She was given injections and a glucose drip to help her to regain strength. Thankfully, she made good progress and by the following day the doctor was happy to discharge her, along with the twins.

Mamta has continued to gain strength since the birth and went back to Jain hospital yesterday for a check-up and was given the all-clear from the medical team. She's received some medication to help with some lingering pain, but the doctor is satisfied that she is healing well.

The twins on the other hand have continued to gain weight! They have put on almost a pound in the eight days since their birth! William is the most active of the two and assures he's the first to be fed by working up a loud cry just before his sister gets up. At the moment, they have things a little confused and sleep during the day and then wake at around 8pm, ready to stay awake all night!

Mamta is just thrilled with her babies and is in awe of the great generosity that has given her the opportunity to see them come into the world safely. She can't stop talking about "these kind people from abroad" and is overwhelmed by what you have done. She is very much aware that none of the tragic outcomes that are so common during childbirth among poor women in India materialized in her case. She was admitted quickly to a reputable hospital where a competent medical team oversaw her entire delivery process and aftercare. And for these things she is deeply thankful.
