Help me run again

Update posted by Roscoe Jones

My name is Roscoe Jones; I have an above knee amputation.

On 7 May 2012 I woke up and my leg and arm were numb due to a blood clot in one of my main arteries.
I was rushed to hospital to find out that it was too late to save my leg and it had to be amputated although the Dr's managed to save my arm.

I also had acute liver and kidney failure and was on dialysis for a month, three times a week.
By the Grace of God my liver and kidneys started functioning again. I was in hospital for three months.

It took me about three months to recover but shortly thereafter I had to go for one more operation to get my leg shaped to fit in a prosthetic.
This operation took place on 28 September 2013.

After yet another hospital stay I started studying to become a personal trainer. I’m proud to say that I am a qualified personal trainer at a Virgin Active Health Club in the Cape Town area.

I want to inspire people and show them that it is possible to reach their goals no matter how hard it may seem.
Life has taught me a big lesson; never ever take life for granted, life is precious and one should be grateful for what we have!

I'm very fortunate to be alive and so grateful that I got one more chance to life.

Today I'm stronger than I've ever been before and working hard to compete in the 2020 Paralympics!
I am in great need of a sponsor to help me have access to prosthetics and sockets and would be truly very grateful for your support.

I am training to take part in the 200 meter sprints (running) and also freestyle swimming. I am very, very passionate about sport and want to make our South Africa proud!

I have lost a few times in my life but I’m now ready to be great!
Please help me go for a Gold Medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
