Surgery is Successful

Update posted by Tami Brewster-Barnes

Nessa's surgery was successful. Because of the number and size of her cysts, she had to stay overnight. She has had surgery before but she came home right away at those times. This time, with the size and number of cysts, they wanted her to stay overnight. That made us sad for her. She's never been away from home overnight unless she was with us. On the rare occasions we have been gone overnight she has been at her home with family.

So I picked her up today and she is very loopy still. The surgery ended up costing $200 less (I've updated the fundraising amount to reflect that) as our vet felt that every cyst - even the small and hard ones - were fatty cysts. Yay all the way around!

She's resting now. Harley the Dachshund (pictured in one of our snapshots) was very excited to have her home. He's not sure what to do when she's not here. Nessa was so out of it that she walked in the house, kicked the Dachshunds off her bed, lay down and has been there ever since. Nessa never kicks the other animals off her bed. Ever. Usually she'll just sit next to the bed and give her humans and mournful look, begging us to take care of it for her.

Nessa needs painkillers and antibiotics twice a day and cleaning three times a day. She has two big sets of stitches, one on her front right leg and one on her back rear leg. Cleaning today will be tough since she doesn't want to move yet!
