Bethlehem House for children "at risk' in the community

Bethlehem House was started in 2010 by Christ Church Ban Chang to provide a safe home for children aged between 7 and 18. and who are "at risk "in the community. The home is located in Ban Chang, Rayong,Thailand. The children who are looked after cannot be adopted as some of their parents haven’t given up their parental rights, and for various reasons, ranging from illness , personal difficulties or serving jail sentences, they are not in a position to look after their sons or daughters. Many other children have either run away from home or have been neglected or estranged from their parents and have taken to drugs and offending in the past.

At Bethlehem house, the staff and volunteers try to make the childrens' lives as normal as possible and many daily tasks are carried out by the children themselves, who are encouraged to become self reliant.

The Objectives of the Bethlehem House Project are to:

1. Help and support neglected children and those from families with problems.

2. Provide education so that the children have an improved quality of life and secure future.

3. Enhance the children’s social life skills so that they will grow and develop to become influential leaders.

Garden International School Community Project

As part of Garden International School's community service programme, Year 7 students have been asked to partner with some local charities to help in various more "hands on" ways. Whilst traditional fund raising is still ongoing, cake bake sales , fancy dress days etc, it is hoped that the students themselves "will get their hands dirty" and contribute to improving the lives of others, less fortunate than themselves, in a more practical way. Monies raised will go towards;

  1. General repairs
  2. Security lights
  3. Academic resources such as books and pens
  4. Alterations to the chicken coup
  5. Installing CCTV

If you can find it in your hearts to donate you will know that your efforts will have a major impact on children who have, so far , not been as lucky as others of their age.

Thank you

Year 7 pupils and staff
