Hey guys,

I`m Sheng a.k.a. Sheng Who and have been investing and building nightlife in Tijuana since approximately 2010 and have been building up the demand and market for underground international talent for the past years as a promoter since I just fell in love with the vibe, people really dance, they still close their eyes and float on the music, there's no elitism, its raw and pure, people from all different types of backgrounds seduced by the beat and united by the vibe. Never any fights or disturbances, its an oasis for the soul and gives people a positive perspective on life and brightens the lives of many directly and indirectly through transformational energy.

Seeing this strong need for an European no nonsense style nightlife experience where it's all about the music. I`m known for keeping it real as a resident at Deck22 and throughout the extended region up until San Francisco and Las Vegas. Under my organisation Best Kept Secret we have thrown numerous events in Tijuana and have always supported national and international talent to build a scene that was floroushing before the pandemic.

Tijuana has the potential to become one of the regions most coveted spots to catch some really hard to experience international artists and leaning heavily towards non commercial electronic music styles. My organisation in particular and collaborating organisation Techlepatic together with a handful of other notable promoters like Mindscapes and boutique pop up festivals like Apparitions have consistently brought quality international underground talent to be enjoyed in an open minded and culturally diverse atmosphere with full liberty of expression to dance till daybreak every weekend.

With California`s strict 2am closing times Tijuana is one of the closest places to enjoy some of your favourite producers tear it up till the sunrise and is a relief for clubbers in an ever increasingly restricted environment north of the border, I can`t even imagine how this is going to work out when we reopen.Wwe will need time to re-establish the trust with the regulatory instances to keep enjoying the permission to break the law in a responsible way and without any health risks.

Being a trusted and professional promoter we gained the trust of local authorities and have always enjoyed very tolerant noise levels and very extended hours simply makes for a proper clubbing experiences that`s highly sought after by music lovers with taste. A short overview of the events I performed at and co-organized is available on Resident Advisor it only scratches the surface though of all the events we've been involved in and also being the booker for venue Deck22 we have been a thriving force to bring quality music to brighten the lives of many and represent the core values of what clubbing is all about and providing a platform for authentic local,regional and international talent. Growing up in Amsterdams underground and enjoying some of the best promoters in the world amongst my circle of friends I can say with pride we always kept it real.

We also always have had open doors to collaborate with other organisations and provided logistical support for festivals and international artists visiting the region and have become a key driver of development and international collaboration.

I wish I was not in need of any fundraising but 6 months of lockdown, cancelled shows as an artist and money locked in future bookings for the organisation is driving us to the brink of non existence.

Just in 2018 and 2019 alone I have reinvested all my personal earnings into my events which to be honest never made any money. This is and was a labor of love and I know that everyone who attended our events knows and feels that.

We`d lower the cover fee just to get more people in and as a consequence would lose money in the range of 500 to 2500 dlls per event but with an open venue still managed to barely pull it together by reinvesting my performance fees as a DJ into the organisation. Being fully vested into this and without any other income this pandemic has been extremely heavy on me.

As some of you might know I also have been very active in fundraising for others by assisting Dance television with the Stay Home Festival and unfortunately since they're also suffering for the same reasons haven`t been able to get properly paid for my work. We're all in the same boat so no hard feelings there but my unselfishness has been my undoing. Its times like these that humility catches up with you when you realized all you`ve given and what you have left. I wouldn't have done anything different though. I don`t live for money but its hard to live without having any.

I am a hard worker, always been always will be but not being a Mexican national causes me to basically be stranded here without any normal way to make a living, no government support and having been far away from home for years don`t get much support from there either. The pandemic hit the whole world. I wanted to avoid to fundraise as long as possible and am always positive and simply refuse to throw events illegally and irresponsibly to get by. There are people in more urgent need, more dire situations is what I`ve always been telling myself. It's also pride. This is not me. I`m always the one to help out but rarely ask for any help myself.

Those that know me know that I`m the opposite of a beggar so I`m not asking for straight up donations.

I`m asking for some help from our clients and collaborators to stay on my feet and will grant the people that supported me credit towards attending our future events and for Djs, venues or promoters that sympathise with my situation I can come down and throw a show when the situation permits and also have you over as a guest as part of the family.

I`ll also put together a special mix as thank you for everyone that donated as soon as we decided if we can stream or not. Been saving up a lot of gems to play out when there's the possibility but now its just music going to waste. It needs to get heard.

The people that know me know that I`ve always been helpful and supportive of everyone, some called me the nightlife mayor of TJs electronic and I hope you can all find it in your hearts now to support me to make it through this pandemic.

To livestream or not ?
If i do a livestream i would need to do it properly and unfortunately can`t do it from the venue. If the campaign is successful however i promise I will put up a good show for all you guys and can livestream our actual events when they start again hopefully by the end of September.

At the moment I can mobilize some resources to do something as soon as i feel its safe. I can`t borrow gear and risk confiscation by authorities due to the illegal nature. My heart and sense of responsibility means i rather starve then throw covid parties or stand behind a webcam all day to show I`m a DJ. Those that know know and a stream won`t do it any justice. The Magic happens when the audience and DJ get on the same frequency and journey together. I simply am uninspired to play in front of a camera with no audience but if you guys insist and will appreciate it I`ll do it for you guys.

What do i need 10k for ?
I need the funds to first of all pay some dues accumulated over the past months that are blocking me to do anything and to prevent landing on the street, I would love to utilize this time to make music but with all the stress I`m simply left uninspired and without the luxury of a government stimulus I simply am fighting for survival.

My main priority is to develop separate income that's not strictly tied to nightlife since the situation has been so volatile. Building that foundation will in turn allow me to funnel it back into Best Kept Secret to keep giving you guys the shows you all enjoyed so much without having to raise the prices to levels that are out of market for the local population. 5$ less cover unfortunately makes a huge difference in attendance but its not the amount i can give away every month for a 150+ people. Yet i did. I rather lose money then receive an artist with a meager crowd. I`ve given my all here and am now at your mercy to survive. If you ever attended one of my bigger events you know that it was financially unsustainable and worth at least double for the experience provided. Being on a long term growth strategy made me prioritize quality and creativity over profit and am now facing the consequences.

Helping me out to setup my another business is directly helping me to help myself to keep things going in the future. Help me to enable me to help others (which i always do and will always keep doing regardless).

My problem has been that I`m too nice and always making compromises to keep everyone happy at my own expense. I`ll lose money and pay staff top dollar out of pocket and take care of the artists regardless. I sincerely hope my efforts have been noted and that i can count on your support. Depending the fundraisers success I have various solid ideas I can put into practice with some funds in hand. And for every dollar donated to me I in turn I will donate and support others when the situation permits it and I`m back on my feet. Goes around comes around.

It would be amazing if you guys could help me to ensure that our ideology and creativity continues to push the boundaries and to develop nightlife in the region to heal souls through music and elevate the collective consciousness to a higher level by providing a platform where it's all about love for the music and life.

People from California that have visited our events at Deck22 know its a gem in the rough and for the locals its simply the spot to end the night and dance till sunrise. Its hard to replicate the let your hair loose kind of vibe we have down here and I hope you can support me to ensure its survival past the pandemic and to keep making people happy offering them solace in an increasingly grim and dark world.

I`m not asking for more then I need and will mobilize leftover resources towards subsidized events to raise funds for other charities. I`m particularly struck by the disaster in Beirut but can`t help if I`m also in a very difficult situation. I have been involved in many online fundraisers without ever receiving a penny nor exposure that's why now the moment has come to organize my own in order to keep helping others. Especially my involvement in the Stay Home Festival can be seen as extensive charity work for over 500 man hours organizing stream logistics and as head booker for the first 2 months. I`m trusted to follow up on my word but if i reach my funding goal feel free to donate directly to charities benefiting more urgent causes like the recovery of Beirut or oher big disasters. If you decide to put it in my hands I`ll provide due diligence on a reasonable timeframe and will organize a streaming festival to benefit causes that I feel are worth supporting with local partners and NGO`s that I can trust and make sure the help arrives to the people.
