I am Benica Ventilacion, a student from Ateneo Law School. Becoming a lawyer is my dream since high school, but I found meaning in becoming one in college after being inspired by two of my classes. In that class, my group created a policy project in a barangay in Paranaque for waste management in the fishing areas. That goes to show how I wanted to work for the government. And that’s why if ever, I wanted to concentrate on Political Law, but as lawyer, I know also have to work on other areas. It’s hard to start from scratch when we research per policy, but I guess if I have a law background, I would have something to work and continue. Like my professor also said, not all policies start from crafting it, some start from a previous policy and it just gets amended through time.
That is why I joined the International Model United Nations. I would say I wanted to help people. But that’s incomplete. In the field that I choose, the question is not the will to help, but the execution of job. For me, that’s the most important thing. Because despite your genuine kindness, despite the sincerity of your will, it will mean nothing if cannot do your job properly. And that’s why I wanted to become a lawyer, I wanted to be able to help people properly. I feel like my Political Science degree isn’t enough. I feel like I have to hone what I learned more, in order to become fit to serve the people.
Recently, I found out that I am one of the 1000 delegates invited to join the conference. I have also received confirmation that I am eligible for early bird registration. The delegate's fee costs around USD 250 (roughly around PHP 13000, inclusive of meals and accommodations) and the airline expenses costs USD 300 (roughly around PHP 16000)
In line with that, I would like to seek for your generous hearts to make this dream come true. I would appreciate donations of any amount. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
