¡Ayudame a luchar!

Hola, mi nombre es Catherine Diaz Santamaría. Cuando tenía 15 años, luego de pasar problemas para caminar, hablar y escribir (entre otras cosas), me diagnosticaron con un gran tumor benigno en el cráneo, (schwannoma). Tuve dejar todos mis planes y pasar por una operación urgente en un país extranjero, pues este tumor estaba comprimiendo mi tallo cerebral y parte de mi cerebro, y afectándome de muchas maneras.

Gracias a Dios y a la ayuda de muchas personas, pude salir de esta operación sin muchas complicaciones, aunque, por el tamaño de este tumor me dejaron la mitad del mismo en mi cabeza.

Ese mismo año, luego de casi 6 meses de recuperación, comencé a sentir dolores fuertes en el lado derecho de mi cara. El tumor estaba volviendo a crecer, y presionando nervios que hacían que sintiera casi como descargas eléctricas en el lado derecho de mi cara. Lo controlamos por un tiempo, tomando medicinas, que a la vez me daban sueño y me causaban dificultades en la escuela. Pero llegado un punto, se volvió demasiado. Sin importar qué hiciese, me dolía, y era peor si no me tomaba mis pastillas. Así fue cómo, a los 17 años, me tuve que volver a operar por el mismo tumor. Esta vez, dejaron solo un pedazo muy pequeño en mi cabeza, con tal de que mi cerebro tuviera oportunidad para desarrollarse mejor.

En 3 años, he podido graduarme de la escuela, entrar a la universidad, hacer nuevos amigos, y comenzar a cumplir y tener nuevos sueños, incluso con las condiciones resultantes de mis operaciones (convulsiones entre ellas).Todo estaba bien, hasta que hace unas semanas me dijeron que el tumor estaba volviendo a crecer. Todavía no está haciendo daño, pero me recomendaron operarme nuevamente para poder quitar todo lo que queda de este, y decidí pelear esta batalla, porque sentí que era lo mejor para mí. Pero necesito ayuda para conseguir el dinero que cubrirá los gastos del viaje y los gastos médicos de la operación. Estoy confiada que con tu ayuda saldré victoriosa de esta lucha.

Hello, my name is Catherine Diaz Santamaría. I had to drop all my plans and went through an urgent operation in a foreign country, as this tumor was compressing my brain stem and part of my brain and affecting me in many ways.

Thanks to God and the help of many people, I was able to come out of this operation without many complications, although, due to the size of this tumor, they left half of it in my head.

That same year, after almost 6 months of recovery, I began to feel severe pain on the right side of my face. The tumor was growing back and pressing on the nerves that made it feel almost like electric shocks on the right side of my face. We controlled it for a while, taking medicine, which both made me sleepy and caused me difficulties in school. But at some point, it became too much. No matter what I did, it hurt, and it was worse if I didn't take my pills. This is how, at the age of 17, I had to undergo another operation for the same tumor. This time, only a very small piece was left in my head, so that my brain could develop better.

In 3 years, I have been able to graduate from school, enter college, make new friends, and begin to fulfill and have new dreams, even with the conditions resulting from my operations (seizures among them). Everything was fine, until a few weeks ago the doctors told me that the tumor was growing back. It's still not doing any damage, but they recommended another surgery to remove the tumor completely, and I decided to fight this battle, because I felt it was the best for me. But I need help to get the money that will cover the travel expenses and the medical expenses of the operation. I am confident that with your help I will emerge victorious from this fight.
