Most apartments and houses are heated with fossil fuels (such as gas or oil) which are not only limited but also bad for our environment. However there are a lot of alternatives to these conventional forms of heating that are not only ecologically better but also more efficient.
So, why people do not use these better heating forms? - Because they are still very expensive - which would change if more people would decide this way. We (my family and me = parents + 2 year old girl) want to have a share in making our world a better place and save it for coming generations.
Despite heating with gas, we want to heat our home with a heating pump connected to a photovoltaic system.
In approx. 100m depth the earth has year-round an almost constant temperature of 10-15°C. If you induce brine solution with a temperature of -5°C to this depth, it will heat up and you can use the temperature difference of 15-20K to heat you home (= opposite of a fridge). The system (heat pump) works with electricity. Generally you can say that 1kWh electricity can be changed to 4kWh heat. The innovation of our solution is that the heat pump is going to work with electricity of a photovoltaic system. The heat pump can communicate with the PV-system and will work when the sun is shining and heat up a reservoir during day.
