INTRODUCTION

Water is a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O. Its molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds. Water is a liquid at ambient conditions, but it often co-exists on Earth with its solid state, ice, and gaseous state (water vapor or steam).

Water has a very wide application in life. One of this is human consumption.

The human body contains anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size. To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration; the precise amount depends on the level of activity, temperature, humidity, and other factors.

It is also used for cleaning. This may include clothes, utensils and also floor cleaning among others. Washing is therefore an important component of several aspects of personal body hygiene.

For these reasons among others, water is widely needed especially in domestic house holds. In most cases, water is supplied to the residential areas through pipes.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Water is a commodity that is widely needed by every human being for several reasons as seen in the introduction. Water is pumped to people in different locations from the water source by the use of water pumps. Since the demand of water is rising due to the swelling population, the pumps are overloaded leading to in ability of the water to reach some people especially those in storied buildings. These people therefore have a problem accessing the commodity due to weak pumping force of these pumps. This leads to the landlords or house owners making use of booster pumps to force the water to reach the highest point of the building. This however does not offer full solution because pumping a tall building demands a very powerful pump or several booster pumps which is very expensive and at the same time leads to huge power consumption. To solve this problem, there is need to come up with a unit to ensure that water is pumped to each floor at a time. This is done by automated water distribution system. This pumps water one floor at a time repeatedly. If there is no water in the tap, the control valves are closed.

OBJECTIVE

  • To design, construct and test automated water distribution system

AIMS

  • To use timing circuit to facilitate supply of water to each floor at a time.
  • To make use of solenoid valves to control water flow.
  • To design a unit that ensures that water reaches everyone at minimal power consumption using a low cost pump.

I am to raise money to b able to complete the project and make it as practical as is expected, since it's my final year project
