Running for Floga

Welcome to our fundraising page!

We are Sotiris, Konstantinos and Alexandra and we will be running the Athens authentic marathon on the 10th of November!!

We hope to raise money in support of Floga, a Hellenic parents association of children with cancer. Floga was established in 1982 by a group of parents and today it supports thousands of families all over Greece, with a network of local representatives in a large number of cities around the country. It is a purely voluntary association raising its funds from donations offered by many charity conscious friends and organisations.

Ever since its foundation Floga has continuously demonstrated a remarkable record of activities and initiatives such as:

• The operation of a guest house located next to the Paediatric Hospitals in Athens. The guest house accommodates for free the young oncology patients and their families who come from different areas of Greece, during the long periods of their treatment.
• The operation of a "Home Nursing program" in collaboration with the Oncology units of the Paediatric Hospitals aiming at a better quality of life for children and their families during their treatment.
• The on-going psychological and social support of the children and their families offered by specialized professionals: psychologists and social workers.
• The financial coverage of a number of specialized medical tests prescribed by the attending physicians but not covered by either the national health system or the private insurance programs of the families.
• The organization of several entertainment activities for the children.
• The creation of seasonal and festive handicrafts by children and their families sold during fund raising activities.
• The operation of an in-house school so children can follow up with their education despite the fact that they have to be absent from their school for long periods of time.
• The continuous effort to raise the public interest in childhood cancer and increase awareness.
