Bringing together our grandfathers and grandmothers with animals have very positive results!

ΚΕΠΑ 'Αγιος Χριστόφορος KEPA Agios Christoforos begun a pioneer program to help our residents. It is called the Animal Assisted Activity (AAA) and is run by Mr. Abraham Themistokleous (a professional Animal Assisted Therapist). We are very glad for this initiative, because we had very positive results as you can see from our pictures. There is a special and therapeutic relationship between humans and animals. An increasing number of medical practitioners, veterinarians, health care professionals are supporting this unique bonding relationship for its potential therapeutic value.

Pets can contribute to human health:
1. Therapeutic touch: petting an animal can release such beneficial hormones as endorphin, prolactin, dopamine, oxytocin and beta phenylethalamine (Odendaal & Meintjies, 2002).
2. Lower blood pressure: Numerous populations including stockbrokers, report lower blood pressure when pets are introduced (Allen at al., 2001).
3. Stress relief: Pets can relief stress more than a spouse or close friend can (Allen, 1998).
4. Survival of heart attacks: Several studies report pet owners have healthier hearts and fewer risk factors for cardiovascular disease and many more...

To Kepa Agios Christoforos εγκαινίασε ένα πρωτοποριακό πρόγραμμα για να βοηθήσει τους ένοικούς μας στο Κέντρο Φροντίδας και Αποκατάστασης. Το πρόγραμμα ονομάζεται Animal Assisted Activity (AAA) και πραγματοποιείται υπό την καθοδήγηση του εκπαιδευτή Αβραάμ Θεμιστοκλέους (Animal Assisted Therapist). Τα αποτελέσματα ήταν πολύ θετικά από την πρώτη συνάντηση όπως βλέπετε από τις φωτογραφίες. Υπάρχει μια ιδιαίτερη σχέση ανάμεσα στον άνθρωπο και τα κατοικίδια ζώα. Ένας όλο και αυξανόμενος αριθμός ιατρών, ψυχολόγων, κτηνιάτρων, καθώς και άλλων ειδικών σε θέματα υγείας, στηρίζουν αυτή τη μοναδική σχέση σύνδεσης-θεραπευτικής αξία του.

Τα κατοικίδια μπορούν να συμβάλλουν θετικά στην ανθρώπινη υγεία:
1. Θεραπευτική επαφή: χάιδεμα ενός ζώου μπορεί να απελευθερώσει ορμόνες ευεργετικές στον άνθρωπο όπως ενδορφίνη, η προλακτίνη, η ντοπαμίνη, η ωκυτοκίνη και βήτα phenylethalamine (Odendaal & Meintjies, 2002).
2. Μειώνουν την αρτηριακή πίεση: Μεγάλη μερίδα πληθυσμού, όπως οι χρηματιστές, αναφέρουν μείωση της αρτηριακής πίεσης όταν έρχονται σε επαφή με κατοικίδια ζώα (Allen at al., 2001).
3. Ανακούφιση από το στρες: Τα κατοικίδια δίνουν ανακούφιση περισσότερη από ένα σύζυγο ή στενό φίλο (Allen, 1998).
4. Η επιβίωση μετά από καρδιακά επεισόδια: Αρκετές μελέτες αναφέρουν οι ιδιοκτήτες κατοικίδιων ζώων έχουν πιο υγιή καρδιά και λιγότερους παράγοντες κινδύνου για καρδιαγγειακά νοσήματα κτλ.
