I am a 34 year old woman from Slovenia.
I need funds to start grad school in the USA.
Every penny donated will go towards tuition and living expenses.
I would like to start the program in August 2016. This means I need to get my student's visa before that. The US immigration office requires me to present sufficinent funds before granting the visa.
So that's the short (and dry) of it.
Here's the rest: I want to get a Master's degree from a US school in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I've been teaching adults and kids for 8 years now and I love it. It's my absolute passion. But there's more: I've seen first hand how communication makes the world a better place. It really does! I have so far worked in Russia, Mexico, Italy and Slovenia, and I have seen first hand how helping my students improve their English has improved their lives. By teaching them a new language I get to show them a different culture, a different mind set, new ideas and ways of doing things. I have seen my students stop being afraid of 'the foreign things' so much, and become more accepting and open minded (I have a BA in Cultural Anthropology, so intercultural communication is something I was into even before I became an English teacher :).
Open-mindedness makes the difference between curiosity and fear. I am a type 1 diabetic, dependent on insulin injections for life. I would like to live in a world where people wouldn't stare in fear (of the unknown) at my injections, but rather with compassion and acceptance - to make my story even more personal :D.
So having an MA in TESOL will hopefully help me stay in the classroom and do a better job, but also go beyond and focus on the bigger picture.
To those who choose to help me, I will be eternally grateful. I will sing praises about you to my students and use you to prove how nice people around the world are! :)
