Ambassador Language Centre

My name is Jason Hendro, and I run a small house-based English tuition course called Ambassador Language Course here in Jogja. It's basically a small room in my house turned into a classroom. I hold a bachelor's degree in English Education and I am an IELTS band-8 non-native English speaker.

Ambassador Language Coursebegan in 2016, so we've been running for at least 2 years. Our students have seen significant improvements in their proficiency, and one thing that i think has greatly contributed to that is the fact that they are learning English from someone who understands the challenges of learning a new language, someone who has himself attained language mastery.

I believe that, given the right input, people can attain high level mastery of the English language in just 2-3 years. The problem is that English learning in schools in Yogya are ineffective because they either teach faulty materials, or deliberately design their curricula to last well over 12 years - with no guarantee that students will be proficienct at the end of it! Ambassador language course was set up in the consideration that there would be students who'd wish to truly improve their english proficiency in a much more effective and efficient way.

Overall, the small 1-room English course has gone well for the most part, though business growth was difficult to achieve, owing to the obvious limitations of having only 1 small room to accomodate a maximum of 5 students at one time. It also meant that hiring a second teacher was out of the question, and some days I had to teach from 8 AM to 9 PM.

Recently, my landlord came to tell me that he needed to use the house we were renting as soon as 2018's lease is up, and that we'd have to find somewhere else to live. 2 days after that, a friend came and offered us to use the 2nd floor of their shophouse, which could be converted into 3 classrooms and an office. Recognizing this to be a great opportunity for growth and expansion, I shortly took up this friend's offer.

What we need now is the initial capital to jump-start this business. We have been saving for the next year's rent, and we only need to pay a very small amount for a one-year rent at the shophouse, which is located at a prime location, btw. However, we have nowhere near the money needed to pay for the renovations, the equipment and furnishings, and to cover for the salaries for additional staff for the first 6 months.

My hope is that this crowdfunding campaign here at gogetfunding.com would help with our situation. Obviously once the business takes off, we will try our best to give back to the gogetfunding community. I pray God will bless generously everybody who decides to help with this project.
