The Amazon Conservation project is an organization that aims to protect the environment and stop the deforestation in the Amazon rainforest, specifically in Cuyabeno, Ecuador
Our goal is to maintain the forest in a good condition, especially in the areas affected by the palm and balsa tree plantations. To do so, we work closely together with local communities in these areas. Some of these collaborations include:
- Environmental education projects and reforestation with the Shuar community.
- In heritage and sustainable tourism with the Secoya community (Lagartococha, on the border between Ecuador and Peru).
- In sustainable tourism with the Kichwa community. This means we create income and work opportunities by running ec-tourism with Waita Lodge.
All the work we do, we do with respect towards the local communities and their cultures. We focus on sustainable tourism with a focus on fauna and flora, working together with projects that aim to protect the environment.
Currently, we're aiming to buy private land in one of the affected areas, so we can stop the plantations and make this a private reserve. Once we've managed to do so, we will run environmental education projects for local schools here and create work opportunities for local families that don't have an income.
