Campaign Story
"Extramile" is a registered youth group in Kenya consisting of young adult members and their siblings who are directly affected by the HIV/AIDS scourge. It is a group of youthful and talented members who have beaten different odds and continue to strive in life despite of our medical conditions and status. I must say that it has not been easy making ends meet. Since no one chooses be born with a positive status or orphaned by infected parents, we have to be strong for our younger siblings and be the hope for them have the zeal to face another day!! We live in one of the largest slums in Nairobi Kenya as one family unit of 43 members (17 young adults between the ages of 18 and 32, 10 teenagers and 16 children) in a small rented place. It has been a struggle but we have to use whatever is available as far as food, rent, school fees and medical needs are concerned. The young adults have to put up with odd jobs like washing clothes, touting, and hawking small items to supplement the cumulative income we get from making fishing baits and lures. Most of the adult youth had to drop school either after completing Primary or secondary and help out however small they could. It is in this in mind that we seek your support and partnering towards making our lives bearable. Some of us could even go back to school and take up courses that could even help the group sustain itself. Please lend us a hand where you can as it will go a long way in making a young desperate and orphaned person smile and hope again. Much appreciated and thanks in advance!!!
