Campaign Story
African Heritage Research Library and Cultural Centre was established in March 1988 in the village of Adeyipo, Oyo State, Nigeria; and its home to the first rural community based African Studies on the Continent. It is also the third largest collection of black race literature (The first being in Washinghton DC and second in London. UK). The collection stands currently at over 200,000 volumes
This campaign seeks to raise fund to save the library for present and future generations. It is currently in the state of emergency. The fund shall be used to make the Centre sustainable by creating great User Experience. The components for investment are:
- Redesigning the website for online forum, chat and accessibility plus E-commerce transaction
- Refurbishing and modernising the 12-room chalets for fee-paying visitors/researchers and writers
- Installation of a 50m deep borehole with pump and overhead tanks
- Bringing Internet/technology to site (2Mbps bandwidth duplex)
- Installation of Audio/Visual equipment for PA, drama, playback and recording.
- Installation of renewable energy to run the Centre
- Air-conditioning of the Centre to preserve the books and all other materials
- Replacing the leaking roof
- Replacing dilapidated furniture
- Advertisement in local and international media to drive traffic to the site

It is amazing, this simple yet powerful cause to bettering our libraries, especially when it is the African Heritage Library and cultural center. It is one thing to say, constantly, that we need to improve public education and cultural integration and one another to actually contribute towards improving it, words are not always enough, but people's actions can be enough. I have faith in the copious pride and intellect this would afford Nigerians and the World if everyone would contribute to the library. Keep this cause going until the goal is realized.
