Adopt a mooring !

For few years the diving community installed mooring lines on the dive sites.
This year we decided
to join efforts between differents organisations and install more in
the places which are more needed.
We have amazing coral reefs in
the bay, that's why we do have people travelling to come and enjoy
the snorkelling and diving here in El Nido. More and more boats are
going out and all are throwing the anchor on the spot. Throwing the
anchor destroys the corals that take years and years to grow.
We
had few prototypes of moorings from other places and people and had
to choose for the one that suits the best in the bay. After
installing some in the big lagoon, because it is the first touristic
destination in the bay, we chose to install more in Dilumacad Island.
Dilumacad beach is a destination of island hopping and diving,
one of the only spot in the bay where both are going. The side is
also exposed all year long to rough conditions, so it's the perfect
place to follow up and monitor the prototype for the next ones to
install.
Diving boats are very aware not to throw the anchor,
also for safety reasons because we can have divers underneath.
Helicopter installation is then a project to educate all the boats to
use the moorings instead of throwing the anchor.
Adopt a
mooring is to help installing more in the bay for the use of
everyone.
All the installation have been made by
volunteers. As you can see on the video it's a lot of material and a
lot of physical effort. This is why we need to organise the
installation for few days in a row and hire people to make it
possible.
Our goal is to install the next ones around South
Miniloc and Shimizu Island, where most of the boats are stopping by
for lunch break.
We also hope that everyone can spread the
word to help educate and make all boats use the mooring lines.
