Adam & Michael EWSC Foundation India ’18

Hi Guys,

We are heading to northern India this summer to work with the Edith WIlkins Street Children Foundation.

The Foundation is a non profit organisation, based in Cork, that works with vulnerable children in India. Child trafficking is rampant in the India/Nepal border region and the Foundation works alongside local authorities to interrupt the trafficking and rescue the children. They provide further aid by taking them off the streets and providing them with shelter, food, counselling and education.
The charity operates on a small-scale with limited resources and therefore relies on donations and minimal government help in India which has been slowing its progress.

As two recently qualified Chartered Accountants, we are heading over for four weeks on a pro bono basis to install simple, effective financial control and business systems to ensure that going forward they can become more self-sufficient and make life easier for their charity workers and the children. Our employers, KPMG have afforded us additional leave this summer to use the knowledge gained during our professional training to establish the business systems and structures the Foundation needs to continue carrying out the amazing work they do.

We have decided to go a step further and do some fundraising before we go so that we can bring desperately needed funds along with our professional skills. Edith has told us that as little as €1 can feed a child in India for a day...

But we're accountants, so we think there's a few more facts and figures you should know:

A €25 donation will buy a child all the books and stationary they'll need for a year.

A €50 donation will cover the cost of a child's clothing for a full year.

They’re not massive numbers, but they’d make a massive difference.

Obviously, any amount you can donate would make a huge difference to the Foundation and help contribute to a better future for the affected children.

We are running two events in the coming months as part of our fundraising;

- June 29th, evening of traditional music and entertainment in DeBurgos, Galway

- July 12th , Quiz Night & Raffle in Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin.
