Sunday, October 4, 2020, was just like any other day. We spent it like most people, with family. Our usual happy weekend was cut short when my mother Cresilda Capangyarihan expressed that she felt dizzy and then fainted in front of us. We immediately rushed her to the nearest hospital. Several tests were done and she was diagnosed with a mild stroke and a blood clot on her brain. She is currently confined in Our Lady of Pillar Medical Center and had undergone surgery to remove the excessive blood clotting on the right side of her brain. She stayed in the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring for 72 hours. On this day Oct 10, My mother has been very responsive at every assessment that was conducted by the doctor. We were then informed that she can now be transferred to a private room but will still be under close supervision. We are all rooting for her continuous recovery.

This situation has gotten my family in extreme financial distress, in addition to the fact that the current position we are all in is already tough. The day before the surgery, we made the decision to show my mother that we will fight until the end. The family had collectively decided that every single penny is worth spending if it will give us more time with our mother. She is such an amazing person and not once did we ever doubt her fighting spirit.

After shedding tears of joy and celebrating my mom’s second chance in life, We finally have to face the reality that the amazing care that she’s been receiving does come at a price. My mother’s surgery and her continuous care are extremely expensive and it doesn’t end there. She will eventually undergo therapy which will unfortunately even cost more. I am sincerely thankful for the love and support that we have been receiving from our family, but as we all know 2020 has already been a struggle. So we are here to knock on your kind and generous hearts and ask for help in making sure that we can pay for her growing medical expenses and continuously support her in her long journey to recovery.

Every penny counts and we also acknowledge the power of prayers. There is no denying that this year has already presented so many hardships to all of us, so we are extremely thankful for any amount that will be donated. We completely understand the risk that we took, and that the amount of money needed will almost guarantee that we will struggle for a long time, but that also bought us more time to be with my mother. She’s still young, it’s not her time yet. She barely just met her first grandchild. So as someone who thinks that the glass is half full, we are just thinking that we just paid for more time. Everything is so worth it.
