WILL YOU JOIN ME IN HELPING MY STUDENTS LEARN TO READ? Hi, my name is Christine and I am writing on behalf of my students. I am writing to ask you if you’d be kind enough to donate to our fund, so we can buy a lounge for our classroom. Wait, a lounge? Yes! To my students this will not be just any ordinary lounge. It will be the fort they run to; to slay dragons, the tree house they climb; to read poetry, and the sanctuary they visit to understand that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. My school is a little haven in an abyss. We do not dwell on the troubling lives of many of our students, instead we focus on teaching students the skills to succeed in life. I am sure you value, like I do, being able to curl up on the lounge to read a book. Do you take this little pleasure for granted? I do. My attention was drawn to this fact when my students for next years class asked me if they could have a comfortable place to read in the classroom. Our school budget is being spent on basic necessities (pencils, breakfast) as well as technology for the classrooms. Therefore, most things in the classroom, besides the desks, are provided by the teacher. I have a dream of establishing a hub in the classroom where students can work collaboratively and learn through experience. This break out space will have different kinds of seating e.g. bean bags, cushions, as well as, being bright and colourful. I will buy a lounge regardless of whether I get any donations, but it’d be a bit nicer and easier with a little help from my friends.
