Campaign Story
On March 5, 2018, Nicole was admitted to a hospital because of a tumor that grew inside of her ovary, which caused her stomach to grow as large as a 7-month old pregnant woman. According to the doctor, the tumor that grew inside her ovary was malignant, measuring 20.0cm x 20.3cm x 12.2cm. Because of this, she had to undergo an operation the next day (March 6, 2018) to the nearest private hospital to her location, which was the Medical Center Imus (MCI). Nicole’s family wanted to bring her to a public hospital for lesser cost, but with the severe pain Nicole was dealing with during that time, it led no choice for them but to ask help from their family and friends for financial assistance for the operation at MCI.
When Nicole was successfully done with her operation, the doctor said that three organs were removed instead of one, since the specimen was larger than expected. The right ovary, the appendix, and the omentum were the organs removed. A month after the operation, Nicole was diagnosed with Mixed Germ Cell tumor with components of immature teratoma Grade 3 and yolk sac tumor, Ovarian Cancer Stage 1A. After forwarding this result from the pathologist to Nicole’s doctor, the doctor has confirmed that she has cancer, and was ought to undergo chemotherapy. Upon visiting an oncologist, he has confirmed this result and treatment as well. Due to financial limitations, Nicole wasn’t able to undergo chemotherapy straight away.
Four months after, Nicole got an ultrasound, and it turned out that the tumor returned to her left ovary leading to her stomach’s enlargement again. After knowing this, Nicole and her family proceeded to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), since her tumor and stomach are getting larger than she can manage. The doctors at PGH advised Nicole to undergo surgery to remove all female reproductive organs. Yet after a CT Scan during the first week of August, it was found out that the tumor stuck to Nicole’s liver. Because of this, the doctors at PGH have decided that Nicole will not undergo surgery, but have chemotherapy instead, after having her liver checked. Each chemotherapy session will cost ₱19,133. There will be a minimum of 6 chemotherapy sessions. Nicole was a hardworking daughter and a breadwinner until her condition made her stop doing so. Nicole is my husband's cousin. Any financial help will definitely go a long way.
