Fernan “Nan” Gutierrez, my beloved partner, started his homebased job in April 2018. It was fine since it will save him food and travel expenses. In less than a month though, it demanded too much from him and he started developing persistent cough and intermittent fever. He also started losing some weight and I thought it was because he wasn’t eating properly during his lunch break. He used over the counter medicines to treat his condition but it did not work.

A month after, he decided to stop working to focus on his recovery. He went to The Family Doc Clinic, but the medications were not effective. In Mid-June, his weight dropped rapidly and he’s been assuring me that it was all okay and he was recovering. However, the opposite happened. He barely ate, his hemorrhoids flared up, got easily tired, had extreme difficulty breathing, and became weaker, day by day. He couldn’t properly walk and talk and was bedridden. His mother was already informed but I guess she thought it wasn’t serious.

At the end of June, I was very alarmed and worried when his condition got worse. I couldn’t bear seeing his pain unattended any longer.

I brought him to The Medical City hospital so he can be given proper medical attention. He was admitted on July 4th, 2018. After a series of tests, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, dehydrated kidney, inflamed liver and a very low oxygen content in his blood. He had to undergo blood transfusion since the ventilator was not effective for him to get enough oxygen. The results also showed that he has 1L of water in his lungs. A day after the admission, his condition got better. He eats and talks properly, he can move his upper body better and the chest pain is gone.

The treatment may take days for him to fully recover and I’m definitely confident that he will. However, we need your help in raising the money to ensure his recovery. His family has barely enough money to pay for the admission deposit, which I have covered. I have a job at a prestige company and the pay is rewarding but it only suffices our basic needs and current bills. The running bill is already at Php 80,000.00 and will further increase as the treatment continues. His family thought of transferring him to a public hospital but I am confident that he won’t have the proper medical care and treatment that we have here considering his complicated situation.
I am humbly asking for your generosity. Any amount is greatly appreciated. We may not be able to pay you all back, but I promise that we’ll pay it forward. I hope and pray that we can make this work so we can go back to our normal lives and celebrate his birthday on August 20th, happy and strong!
