INTRODUCTION
Autism Society of Kenya Self Help Group (ASKSHG) is an organization formed by parents of children with Autism in Kenya. Their children school in a primary school called City Primary School in the capital city of Nairobi. The school has a special unit as well as a Vocational Training Center to train children with cognitive/intellectual disability on vocations/courses.
FUNDRAISING OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of this fundraising campaign is to benefit the school to enable;
1. Fund the equipping of the Vocational Training Center at the school for training the children and the youth on various income-generating skills which they can adopt and start their own income generating businesses later in life.
We are having a big challenge of tapping into the talents of children which has made them stay at home after they grow up and can longer attend special schools. This is making the children to be dependent on their parents for life.
2.
The
construction of a Respite Care Centre for short-term
admission of children with Autism and other severe disabilities so as to give
reprieve to their caregivers (mainly parents and guardians) and enable them to
attend to other socio-economic day-to-day activities.
Personally, I have a 17 year-old son with Autism and at some point as a
family, we really wished this facility was available in our country so that we can
admit him for a week to give us a much-needed short-break from the emotional
stress that was occasioned by his behaviour.
Thank you.
