Campaign Story
My name is Samuel Tamaligi Thomas from the village of Malaeloa. I am the oldest son of Lupelele Iosefa Thomas and the late Samuel Thomas. My grandparents are the late Dr. Amituana’i Reupena Iosefa and Ferila Iosefa. I graduated from Tafuna High School in 2010. I am currently in my 3rd year at Arizona State University, with the aid of an ASG scholarship, pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in Global Health. I plan to return home to American Samoa to give back and share the knowledge and experiences that I have learned to serve our community.
As a Global Health major at ASU, it is required to complete a semester “abroad.” I have applied and been accepted to go to New Zealand this Summer 2013, where I will have the chance to study the country’s interdisciplinary focus on health and the environment from a broad social, cultural, and ecological perspective. This is an opportunity for me to acquire a new sensitivity to the dynamics of health and environment in another country and culture; to view with fresh eyes the challenges we face in the United States and American Samoa.
I am humbly seeking a donation from you (your company) that would help defray expenses for this learning experience. The trip will cover both North and South Islands with a cost of $6,600. This amount covers 6 credits of coursework, all accommodation, excursions, cultural events, insurance, ground transportation and some meals. My international round-trip fares are not included.
If you’d be willing to support this cause, please send in your contribution/donation to Samuel T. Thomas (480-331-0699) to the return address of this letter or contact my mother, Lupe Thomas (684-733-2221). We are sincerely grateful of any donation.
