Thanks to everyone who has deposited into my bank account! I've made $100 so far, so have dropped my goal down to $400 here.
In Thailand's small villages, many children go without. There's just not enough resources or money to give children a well rounded upbringing.
In January/February 2014, I'll be volunteering in Angthong, Thailand for 3 weeks. During this stay I'll be living as a home-stay in a local home and working at the village's small school. Alongside this project, I will be assisting Angthong's monks on the reconstruction and maintenance of the village's temples.
Part of this project is tailored to what I, in particular, can do for the community, and this would be providing mental health services. Mental health is something that is well overlooked in small villages. Physical health resources are scarce enough, and mental health resources are virtually non existent. This is a real issue in stopping the cycle of poverty, as many residents are dealing with PTSD, depression, substance abuse, abuse related psychosis and other disorders. This is a huge opportunity for me.
This project will be challenging, but also hugely rewarding. I'm excited to immerse myself in a different culture. This is the type of trip that pushes the boundaries of everything I know- I'm looking forward to learning a lot.
I don't like to ask for help in funding, but there's just no way I can make it by myself. My minimum target funding goal is $500, this money will be split between travel expenses and resources for the children and school. Everything is deeply appreciated, even just $5!
Thank you all for spending your time to read this, your support means masses to me.
