Two weeks ago 4 young children lost their Aunt and their entire home in a house fire in Nadi in Fiji, the house was right near where I stayed when I was there in February this year. The fire was caused by a mosquito coil because they didn't have any netting.
The kids are Jolame 13, Sabrina 11, Makelesi 9, Joe 5 and their Aunt that died had a 7 month old daughter. The kids are currently staying with neighbours and relying on the family that I stayed with for food, heartbreaking!
Their Dad died when the youngest was born. And their Mum died last year. So they were staying with their Grandmum until she died early this year. So the aunt that died in the fire was their primary guardian, which makes this accident even more tragic!
This week, in amongst all this tragedy, Sabrina & Jolame got some good news, they have both been chosen to represent their school for Athletics in Fiji's capital, Suva. The competition is on the 25th April. Suva is 4 hours by bus from their hometown so I'd love to raise some money to help send them to this competition, to pay for their sports uniforms and their trainers and give them something to look forward to!
£7 is approx $20 Fijian dollars, so if we all give up two coffees this week we could give two of these beautiful children some positive memories of their childhood rather than all this tragic loss <3
If i manage to raise any money I'm planning to send the money to them via western union and I'll cover the fees myself, thanks so much for your support in advance!
