Our local high school, Summit High, has planned a three week trip to Japan for a few select students who excel in their Japanese language class. My son has been selected to participate in this adventure. My son KK is a fifteen year old boy who has the challenge of a physical disability which makes him use forearm crutches to get around. He is an incredible artist, musician, and academic. So far he has raised 80% of the total costs but $2500 remains. The costs of this trip include air fare, transportation, food, host family fee, hotel stay, chaperon fee, and more. We have exhausted the local resources and hope to raise the remaining with Kickstarter. The students will fly into Japan on July 1st 2013 where they will be divided into pairs and placed with host families. They will attend high school with local Japanese students and participate in the tradition and customs of the area. The second part of the trip will consist of visiting Tokyo and Kyoto where many companies and facilities will greet them and show them around. The return date is July 21st 2013. This once in a life time opportunity will immerse my son in a culture he has been interested in for years. This experience will change his perspective in many ways and open his mind to the many cultures this great world has. My son will document his travels with a video recorder and camera. This documentary will be given to Summit High School as a project and preview for other students in the coming years. You will get to see a young man's journey to a place he has always wanted to see and the difficulties and accomplishments of traveling with a disability. Thank you for your support and for fostering multiculturalism in our youth.
