I consider my mother as the most courageous, determined and persistent woman. Being a single mother, she raised me and my sister all by herself. She provided us everything we need; food, shelter, education, and most all, the love we could ever ask for in a family. She also taught us to be strong and to always have faith in God in all aspects of our life, no matter what situations we are in.

Growing up in a broken family, I saw all the hardships my mother had to go through. That’s why I decided to try my luck in Middle East in the hopes to find a good job and save for our future. Being 4,000 miles away from my mother is very difficult because fears always haunt me. As her son, I feel the need to be there to take care of her but like any other son, I have to make sacrifices so I can give her a comfortable life.

Then in the middle of the night in February 19 2019, my mother was having terrible headache which for several days she let it pass thinking it was just nothing. She was then rushed into the hospital where she passed out. The doctor said it was brain aneurysm (hemorrhagic stroke). My heart was broken to learn the news. I wanted to hold her. I wanted to hug her. I wanted to be there right away but I couldn’t. All I could is to hold onto my faith. The doctors said she must undergo craniotomy (a surgical removal of part of the bone from the skull to expose the brain) to treat her. This was done successfully but complications occurred where she struggled of breathing. That’s why a tracheostomy was also done to her. But few days after, another possible complication of having hydrocephalus (this condition occurs when excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collects in the brain's ventricles) could happen to my mother. Her neurosurgeon suggested of a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt to treat her condition.

My mother stayed for 15 days in the ICU and up until now she’s still in the recovery room. Seeing her condition through the photos sent to me was really heartbreaking. I could only cry and pray to give thanks to God that my mother’s life was spared.

Furthermore, the trial in my family is not ending here because my savings from my meager salary had been exhausted already. The hospital bill is increasing day by day and way beyond my capacity. Hence, I am knocking to your doors to seek help you can extend to my family. I am also requesting to pray for my mother’s recovery because she and my sister are the only family I have.
