In September 2014, I will be fulfilling a lifelong dream to volunteer in Africa as part of the  Global Volunteer Network Remote Orphan Care Project! I am grateful for the oppotunity to take part in this service, and for the support I have received. My placement is in Mukono District, Uganda, where I will partner with a local non-profit (The Real Uganda ) volunteering at a remote orphanage called Grace Orphanage Centre. The orphanage provides about 150 local children from preschool age to grade 7, with the love, support and education they need to grow & thrive. Children and their families have been devastated by the effects of HIV & AIDS but are provided schooling & food free of cost at Grace Orphanage.

While in Uganda, I will be staying on site at the orphanage and participating in cultural exchange, community services, teaching, recreation and home outreach. Along with teaching, this project focuses on the wellbeing & happiness of the local community. There will not be running water, or electricity at the orphanage, so connecting to home will be done sporadically. As a connection to home and my career, I am planing to visit a local YMCA to see how they help serve & strengthen their communities. I can't wait to learn from and create relationships with those I meet. This is sure to be an impactful experience; embracing the way of life, cuisine, language, and beautiful environment in Uganda.

Every child needs love and deserves to reach their full potential. Please help me embark on this journey to serve others & learn from them. Every donation makes a difference! If you are unable to donate at this time, please share this page with others. Thank you for your consideration- I am greatly appreciative!
