Whether you are an educational institution in need of an injection of cash, or an individual looking for self-improvement or self-discovery, crowdfunding is becoming an important element in helping achieving it.

So how could you make it work for you?

Education Providers:

If you are an education provider, and are wondering how to fund a school trip, university project or even update some much needed equipment, consider the resources you already have – your students! With just a little investment of your time you can create events that students will love to become involved in and more importantly want to share.

Have you considered making a fundraiser as a class project?

This can teach your class IT skills, money management, graphic design, networking off and online, communicating with local businesses and media outlets, teamwork, business skills, co-ordinating an event (even if it is a table top sale at the school), photography, video recording and so much more.

We have seen several classes do this – some as a class fundraiser, others splitting the class into groups to add a competitive edge – with impressive results. Not only are your students learning valuable skills, but they are developing responsibility and pride in the cause they are raising money for.

Individual Learners:

Education and learning is not limited to the classroom – it could be argued that we are learning something every day. So, what can you do to help ensure you passion for education and learning can be achieved?

Firstly, reach out to those who know you. If it is something close to your heart make sure everyone knows. Tell everyone that you would rather receive donations for your education than Christmas or Birthday gifts, for example. This will demonstrate your drive to make this happen for you.

De-clutter and hold an auction or sale to sell things you really don’t need any more. You will be surprised at how quickly your off-line donations can mount up.

Approach organisations or businesses that have a common interest in your learning field. Many companies have marketing departments that would be willing to sponsor or invest in you if you can show them you have a clear objective of how to achieve your goal.

If you have already acquired skills along your learning path, put them to good use. Offer yourself (and your skills) as a way not only raising cash, but also of raising awareness of your campaign.

So if you are wondering how to fund your education or learning plan, try crowdfunding. The results may surprise you!
