Laban Zyrus

On the night of September 23, 2020, 17 year-old Zyrus Miguel Quilantang rode with his uncle to the Calbayog City proper to get his motorbike. Little did he know that he and his uncle would meet tragic fates.

While caught in roadwork traffic, gunmen approached his uncle's vehicle and shot his uncle in the head. Two bullets to the head killed Zyrus's uncle instantly. But stray bullets don't choose their targets and two bullets hit Zyrus in the head as well, one lodging in his brain.

As of today, Zyrus continues to fight for his life in a hospital in Tacloban. He is in a grave and critical condition, but signs of life continue to amaze his family and friends.

Just like any teenager, Zyrus has dreams to chase and is known to be kind and pure of heart. Family and friends continue to pray that he return from the brink of death.

He doesn't deserve to have his life and dreams to be taken away. He is an innocent victim in a vicious and violent world. We condemn the people who have shown no heart, no soul, and no conscience in the killing of Zyrus' uncle, a family man who has left behind a wife and three children.

More importantly, we urge friends, family, and anyone who is against senseless violence to have their indignation known by being one with Zyrus in the biggest fight of his life by donating any amount that will help in his medical bills as well as to help his uncle's grieving family.

He could be your son, your nephew, your friend. Violence has to stop and any small measure of help to Zyrus is your own way of saying no to the senselessness of his shooting.
